The PM Surya Ghar subsidy in Bharuch pays ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third, up to ₹78,000 for a home system of 3 kW or more. You apply online through DGVCL, the system is installed and inspected, and the money is credited to your bank account after commissioning. Most rejections come from a few paperwork mismatches that are easy to fix before you file.

How much subsidy you get

The subsidy is Central Financial Assistance under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, launched in February 2024. It applies to residential connections only. The amount depends on system size, not on your bill or income.

System sizeSubsidyTypical installed priceYou pay
1.1 kWp (2 panels)₹33,000₹55,000₹22,000
2.2 kWp (4 panels)₹63,600₹1,10,000₹46,400
3.3 kWp (6 panels)₹78,000₹1,65,000₹87,000
4.4 kWp (8 panels)₹78,000₹2,20,000₹1,42,000
5.5 kWp (10 panels)₹78,000₹2,75,000₹1,97,000

Installed prices are our quote-level average of ₹50,000 per kWp. The full breakdown by size is in our post on solar panel price in Bharuch.

Housing societies and RWAs can claim ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities, up to 500 kW, including EV charging points. Shops, offices and factories get no central subsidy.

People often ask about a Gujarat state top-up on top of the central amount. Plan around the central ₹78,000. We confirm any state benefit at the time of filing, and our Gujarat subsidy guide explains why we do not quote one in advance.

Who is eligible

You qualify if all of these are true.

  • You are an Indian household with a residential DGVCL connection
  • You own the house and the roof where panels will go
  • The roof has enough shade-free space for the system
  • You have not already taken a solar subsidy on this connection
  • The panels used are ALMM-listed with domestic cells (DCR)

That last point is the installer’s job, but it matters to you. A system built with non-DCR panels will not get the subsidy, however well it works.

Documents you need

Keep these ready before filing. Scans or clear phone photos are fine.

  1. Latest DGVCL electricity bill showing the consumer number
  2. Aadhaar card of the person named on the bill
  3. Bank passbook front page or a cancelled cheque, in the same name
  4. Proof of ownership of the house, such as a property tax bill or index copy
  5. Mobile number and email address you check regularly
  6. Photo of the roof, taken in daylight

The single most useful check is that the name is spelt the same way on the bill, the Aadhaar card and the bank account.

The DGVCL process, step by step

Gujarat applications run through the national portal at pmsuryaghar.gov.in and the state’s SURYA Gujarat portal run by GUVNL and GEDA. The vendor handles the state side.

Step 1. Register on the portal

Choose state Gujarat and discom DGVCL. Enter your consumer number from the bill, your mobile number and email. An OTP confirms the mobile.

Step 2. Apply for rooftop solar

Log in with your consumer number and fill the rooftop solar application with the system size you plan.

Step 3. DGVCL feasibility approval

DGVCL checks that your connection can take the system. The main check is your sanctioned load. If the planned system is too large for it, you will be asked to apply for load enhancement first.

Step 4. Choose a registered vendor and install

After approval, the system is installed by a vendor registered on the portal. The install itself is quick. Rakesh Patel in Zadeshwar told us, “Installed in one day. They send generation reports on WhatsApp every month.”

Step 5. Submit plant details and apply for the net meter

Panel serial numbers, inverter details and photos are uploaded, and the net meter application goes in. How the net meter changes your bill is explained in DGVCL net metering in Gujarat.

Step 6. Inspection and commissioning

DGVCL inspects the installation and fits the bi-directional net meter. The commissioning certificate is then generated on the portal.

Step 7. Submit bank details

Upload the bank account details and cancelled cheque. The subsidy is released to that account.

The work on your roof is the short part. The waiting sits in the approvals.

Farhan Qureshi in Sherkhi, Bharuch, took an SBI solar loan for the system. The ₹78,000 subsidy reached the bank account six weeks after commissioning. That is a realistic expectation for the final stage.

Why applications get stuck or rejected

We see the same few problems again and again across Bharuch, Ankleshwar and the villages. All of them can be fixed before filing.

Name mismatch between bill, Aadhaar and bank

This is the most common one. The bill says “Patel Rameshbhai K”, the Aadhaar says “Ramesh Kantilal Patel” and the bank account is in the wife’s name. The subsidy is paid only to an account matching the connection holder. Older houses in Bharuch city and in villages like Manubar, Tankariya or Dayadara often still have the bill in a grandfather’s name. Apply to DGVCL for a name change first. It saves weeks later.

Sanctioned load too low

Some older homes have a sanctioned load of 2 kW or less on the bill, even though they now run two or three ACs. DGVCL may not approve a 3.3 kWp system on that connection until the load is raised. Load enhancement is a separate application to DGVCL with its own fee. We check the sanctioned load at the site visit and tell you before filing.

Roof ownership not clear

Joint family property, a flat in a building where the terrace is common, or a rented house all need care. In an apartment, the terrace belongs to the society, so a single flat owner usually cannot put panels there alone. The society can apply for common facilities instead. For a bungalow in a family member’s name, the application should be in that person’s name.

Subsidy already claimed or wrong connection category

If a subsidy was taken earlier on the same connection, a second one is not allowed. A house running on a commercial connection, which happens when a ground floor shop and the home share one meter, does not qualify for residential subsidy.

Non-DCR panels

If an installer uses panels that are not ALMM-listed with domestic cells, the portal rejects the claim at the end. Ask for the panel model and check it before installation.

What we file for you

For every home system, we file the PM Surya Ghar application and the DGVCL net metering paperwork ourselves. That covers registration, the rooftop application, plant details, the net meter application, coordinating the inspection and the bank details upload. You sign where needed and keep your documents ready.

There is no advance payment. You pay after approval, and our proposal arrives within 48 hours of the free site visit. We use UTL, Waaree and Adani DCR panels, our own installation team, and give 5 years of free maintenance with quarterly checks. See the residential solar page for what the package includes.

If you want to spread the cost, public sector banks offer collateral-free loans under PM Surya Ghar for systems up to 3 kW at concessional rates, typically around 7%. Check the current rate with your bank. Our post on solar loans and EMI in Gujarat goes through the numbers, and solar subsidy in Gujarat covers the state picture.

Gujarat leads India under this scheme, with about 5.94 lakh home installations by March 2026. Surat district alone has close to 75,000. No district figure has been published for Bharuch yet. Our Gujarat rooftop solar guide covers the state picture.

Questions people ask

How much subsidy do I get for solar in Bharuch under PM Surya Ghar?

The central subsidy is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW. That makes ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and ₹78,000 for 3 kW or more. ₹78,000 is the maximum for a single home. It applies only to residential connections, and the amount is the same in Bharuch as anywhere else in India.

How do I apply for the solar subsidy with DGVCL?

You register on pmsuryaghar.gov.in with state Gujarat, discom DGVCL, your consumer number, mobile and email. Then you apply for rooftop solar, wait for DGVCL's feasibility approval, get the system installed by a registered vendor, apply for the net meter, pass inspection, and submit bank details. Your vendor can file every step for you.

How long does the PM Surya Ghar subsidy take to come into the account?

The national portal says the subsidy is released within about 30 days of submitting bank details after commissioning. In practice it can take a little longer. One of our customers in Sherkhi, Bharuch received ₹78,000 six weeks after the system was commissioned. Most of the total waiting time sits in DGVCL approvals and inspection, not in the installation.

Can I get the solar subsidy if the electricity bill is in my father's name?

The subsidy is paid to the person named on the electricity connection, and the bank account must match that name. If the bill is in your late father's name or a previous owner's name, apply to DGVCL for a name change first. It is also possible to apply in the current bill holder's name if that person is alive and the bank account is theirs.

Do shops and factories get PM Surya Ghar subsidy in Gujarat?

No. PM Surya Ghar central subsidy is only for residential connections. Shops, offices and factories pay the full installed price. Businesses can usually claim accelerated depreciation on solar, so they should ask their CA about the current rate. Housing societies can get ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities such as lifts, pumps and EV charging.

Can I apply for PM Surya Ghar if I live in a rented house?

The scheme is meant for households that own the house and roof. A tenant cannot apply alone because the roof belongs to the owner. If the owner agrees, the owner can apply in the name on the electricity connection. We check ownership papers and the bill name at the site visit so there are no surprises later.
